The Trustees applied an elaborate program for the colony's settlement, generally known as the Oglethorpe Strategy, which envisioned an agrarian Culture of yeoman farmers and prohibited slavery. The colony was invaded through the Spanish in 1742, during the War of Jenkins' Ear. In 1752, immediately after the government failed to renew subsidies that
